Me too & Co exists to provide “relief of children with additional needs due to physical or learning impairment, emotional or behaviour difficulties or any permanent or temporary illness, in the London Borough of Richmond and surrounding areas, and the provision of information, practical advice and support to their families, carers and siblings”.
Me too & Co is a new voluntary organisation set up in January 2006 in Richmond upon Thames by a group of parents of children with additional needs and professionals who work with them. We provide a structured play session, facilitated by trained, experienced volunteers to offer these children the same opportunities to play and have fun as other mainstream children, in a friendly and welcoming environment.
We also aim to help the children by providing advice, information and support to their parents /carers in the form of talks, workshops and counselling with the main framework in mind of helping parents to help children. We work in partnership with other organisations to achieve this.
We provide a service where a parent can feel comfortable attending with their child, feel understood and socialise with other parents. Play sessions are especially helpful as many of the children are overwhelmed with therapies, and have very little opportunity to play.
Me too & Co is run entirely by volunteers, all of whom have direct personal or professional experience of children with additional needs. The chair and four of the other trustees and many other volunteers are parents of children with additional needs.
To ensure that we are fully informed and led by our members needs, we gather written information on needs from all our members when they join and organise regular consultations with our members through questionnaires, meetings and informal interviews.
