Celebrities from stage screen and television turned out to boost our second annual fundraising event, which raised almost £5,000.
The star studied evening also supported by the new Mayor, Cllr Celia Hodge, was held at the Turks Head function room in Twickenham.
Among those who provided entertainment was Sally Phillips, the well known actress and comedian who compèred the evening, Debra Stephenson formerly of Coronation Street and David Roper of ‘4 Poofs and a piano’ fame.
More than 100 people turned up to support the worthwhile cause on the 22nd May 2009 and were treated to a delicious hog roast with music provided by the ever-popular ‘live-set’ band, ‘Soul Disciples’. The raffle and auction items of theatre tickets, dinners for two, week-end breaks, vintage wine, and a case of malt whiskies signed by the distillery owner, were all donated by local businesses and helped to contribute to the total raised.
The money raised on the evening will be used to set up a new communications group, which is planned to commence operating in September 2009.
Anne-Marie Asgari commented: “When I started the charity 3 years ago, I could never have imagined just how much demand there would be for our kind of support. Also, how amazing the local establishment would be in supporting us so pro-actively. I would like to thank all those who gave so generously on our special fundraising evening and also our trustees and helpers who put in so much of their time voluntarily.”
