Training Programme

We believe in investing in volunteers. One way of doing this is in offering a variety of training to our volunteers in order to gain the right understanding to work with our families and children.

Below are some of the training workshops which we have offered to our volunteers. 5 of our volunteers are also studying for their NVQ Level 2 in Childcare with the support of Me too & Co.

Child Protection Training

Covering: legislation, listening to a child, disclosure and what happens next in Richmond.

Certificate will be given at the end of this training.

Child Protection Training is essential for all Me too & Co volunteers working with children.

Equality & Diversity Workshop 10.30 — 12noon

Understanding of equality and diversity and its implementation in our organisation is an asset. It leads to strength, creativity and team spirit for Me too & Co. This training will explore issues relating to diversity and identify effective practices for our organisation.

Objectives:

  • Familiarise participants with national and local information about communities.
  • Confirm expectations of Anti discriminatory legislation for volunteers.
  • Consider some of the day to day practices and challenges in working with people.
  • Prepare points of action for Me too & Co

Understanding the Medical & Social Model Micheline Mason — Shining a light on inclusion. www.michelinemason.com

We are very privileged to have Micheline, one of the main disabled activists in this country, to present this very important inside for us. An experienced educationalist, researcher, writer and trainer, Micheline draws not only on her extensive knowledge, but also on her life as a disabled woman and mother to give refreshing and remarkable insight into the entire equality arena.

Disability Equality Training programme is not about passively receiving information. It’s about discovering, understanding, developing intelligent solutions to real issues and creating a shared vision that enables change.

There will be a break for Coffee/ Tea & Sandwich Lunch afterwards.

Child Protection Training

Aim:
We will be able to understand Me too & Co’s child protection policies, guidelines and procedures,
And
Raise awareness of safeguarding children and the need for safer practice when working with children and young people.

Objectives:
To:

  • assist participants to acknowledge their feelings and dilemmas in relation to safeguarding children.
  • enable participants to acquire an increased understanding in the recognition of child abuse.
  • acquire knowledge to be able to respond appropriately to child protection issues.
  • provide an opportunity to discuss best practice.
  • receive a briefing about the Safechild Award
